5 Tips to Find Work, Collaborators, and Community on Working Not Working

Christian Blackwell / WNW Talent + Community Manager

So you created your Working Not Working profile. Hoorah! Do a little dance and keep that smile on your face. Now it's time to find work, collaborators, and community that will help open doors to endless opportunities. Working Not Working strives to be the most creative platform on the internet. As a creative, you can find jobs and gigs from companies like Apple, Google, Wieden+Kennedy, and The New York Times. Want to know how you can find work? Want to know how to get noticed? The WNW team has your back. Take a look at some quick steps below.

1. Ensure your profile is fully complete.

This is the most important step to follow. Once your profile is complete, hirers will then be able to search for you and message you with creative projects and open roles. Need to double-check to see if you finished building your profile? No worries: click this like HERE to ensure you followed all the steps.

2. Update your status.

This is huge! Once your profile is complete, this is the one thing you should do weekly or even daily. Updating your status lets hirers know that you are available for work, what date you’ll be available next, whether you’re currently booked on a project, if you’re full-time but moonlighting, or when you’re out-of-office soaking up some sunlight. Your status is how you communicate with hirers. We’ve made it effortless.

Put it this way. In any relationship, communication is key. If you don’t share what you’re up to, they won’t know.

3. Start following folks in your industry and build your tribe.

If using a desktop, click the creatives tab and use the filter feature to drill down into your industry. Once you find someone whose work you love, follow them and connect with them. Tell them which of their projects you love. Ask them for advice.

As you start to follow fellow members, your WNW Feed will populate with their new projects and platform activity, alongside job alerts and content updates. The feed is essentially where you can see your network, cultivate it, and watch it grow.

4. An obvious one.

When using the WNW platform, click All Jobs in the top menu to start to look for work. Fun fact: if you created your profile in full, the All Jobs page will automatically load jobs within your role and industry to allow you to find applicable jobs faster. If you want more options, use filters to both expand your search and drill down.

5. Get involved in community events.

WNW hosts some really cool events, just virtually at the moment. They’re inspiring, educational, and collaborative. During these events, you’ll have the opportunity to meet other creatives, both freelance and in-house, and employers who are looking to connect with creatives. All events are held in a safe space with an open mind. We invite everyone to join, share their perspective, hear from others, and embrace the community that makes Working Not Working what it is.
