Italian Artist Community Organizes a COVID-19 Art Auction for the Italian Red Cross
WORKING NOT WORKING
COVID-19 has hit Italy especially hard. A group that includes WNW Member Emiliano Ponzi, a world-famous illustrator, Spazio Fuori Luogo, a Milan creative cultural center, and OPEN, a young independent online magazine, are working to raise money and awareness to combat the coronavirus: “Art has always been a mirror of times, a way to reflect upon historic events and exorcise the troubles of life…...The message is that 'staying home' does not mean 'staying still': we can all do our part even in moments of great uncertainty.”
The project, titled COVID Uncovered, rallied twenty famous Italian artists to participate in a life drawing session via Skype. Two models were wearing all sorts of face protections seen in Italy lately: different types of surgical masks, as well as scarves and gas masks. The resulting drawings and sketches are now on auction online, with bids being donated to the Italian Red Cross.
The deadline to place a bid is this Friday, April 3rd.
This obviously goes beyond just Italy. The group hopes that this project also serves as a call to action for artists all over the world to do something to help their own communities.
