NOT WORKING: ON THE ANTISOCIAL NETWORK

NOT WORKING: ON THE ANTISOCIAL NETWORK

WNW Members #20 Brian Moore (behind this year's Unicef Tap Project) and #22 Chris Baker spoke to WNW about their newest app: "Cloak is incognito mode for real life. Avoid exes, co-workers, that guy who likes to stop and chat— anyone you'd rather not run into. Cloak scrapes Instagram and Foursquare to let you know where all your friends, "friends," and nonfriends are at all times so you never have to run into that special someone. Think of it as the antisocial network."

Download Cloak free for iOS and gain the power of invisibility.

WORK: AUTHENTIC WEATHER

WORK: AUTHENTIC WEATHER

WNW Member #1830 Tobias van Schneider is a multidisciplinary designer born in Germany, raised in Austria, and currently living and working in New York City. Focused on Branding & Interactive Design he has worked with companies such as Red Bull, Spotify, BMW, Google, Wacom, Sony, Fantasy Interactive, Stinkdigital, Toyota, Ralph Lauren, Bwin & more. We spoke to Tobias about his app, Authentic Weather, which just released an update.

"If there is one thing we all have in common around the world, it’s complaining or talking about the weather. It’s pretty much the #1 casual conversation starter. Authentic Weather aims to just be that weather app that speaks your language and shows you what you really want to know. We think Authentic Weather is actually human."

What is the concept of Authentic Weather?

The concept is simple: tell people what they really think about the weather.

There's a huge saturation when it comes to weather apps, most of them show beautiful statistics about the weather, but in reality no one cares. We just want to get the weather, straight in our face. Authentic Weather is like your grumpy friend: it's happy when the weather is nice, but in a pretty bad mood if that's not the case.

How does it work?

With Authentic Weather we get your location, then return you the weather information. Depending on the actual weather status and in combination with the temperature we show you a phrase that fits the weather the best. So basically, if weather = raining & 11 degrees, we have a pool of weather phrases we randomly select one. In the future those phrases will become even more context aware.

With the new camera mode we just introduced, you can now look through your camera & see what Authentic Weather has to say. Then you can share your picture with the weather phrase on top of it to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram to tell your friends.

How did you develop Authentic Weather and what's been the response?

We've developed Authentic Weather for iOS & Android. We see Downloads going up the last 7 months and getting amazing feedback from our users. Trending in the Top10 most Paid Weather apps happened quite often the past few months, and we want to make sure that Authentic Weather is YOUR favorite new weather app. We're already working on a lot more features and content updates to make sure that there is only one weather app for you - Authentic Weather!
