PAPER PLAYBOOK: CREATING A TACTILE ADVENTURE
On a recent trip to France and Spain, while frequenting local bookstores, WNW Members #2386 Masato Nakada and #2766 Karen To Nakada discovered not only the educational elements of children's books there, but also their design potential. And so the idea for Paper Playbook was born. In keeping with that approach, there's a maturity and craftsmanship to Paper Playbook that makes it a children's book designed for both grownups and kids.
Masato and Karen give a little insight into what you can expect to find within: "Exploring different compositions, textures, and loose narratives, we contrasted different types of paper and bound them together into a tactile adventure. Poetic and interactive, the sequence of the book is especially important. As you turn each page, a new composition is revealed, changing the meaning of the page previously viewed and divulging a bit about what’s to come."
Masato and Karen made an edition of 10 for the LA ArtBook Fair last month. It quickly sold out (and back-ordered), but they're currently preparing to put together the second edition. Stay tuned!
