Can You Entertain the World in Only
18 Seconds or Less? Enter the
GIPHY Film Fest
WORKING NOT WORKING
Our friends at Dark Igloo, a creative studio run by WNW Members Dave Franzese and Mark Richard Miller, are helping GIPHY produce its first ever micro-film festival. Because it’s time GIFs are officially recognized as an artistic medium rather than just digestible jokes you post in your company’s Slack channels. Film submissions must be 18 seconds or less, and Dark Igloo thinks many of their fellow WNW Members, from advertisers to animators to filmmakers, could create something enduring in that loopable timeframe. We happen to agree.
The deadline is fast-approaching, as you’ll have to submit by October 11th. But GIPHY will also accept entries of existing work from the last two years, as long as they’re entirely original, including audio.
Here’s why you should submit: First, your film will be screened IRL on November 8th at The Metrograph in New York’s Lower East Side. It’s one of WNW HQ’s favorite theaters. Oh yeah, and the grand prize winner gets $10,000, plus a 5-year Squarespace website subscription and the opportunity to guest curate an official playlist on Spotify. The winner will be announced at the screening, hosted by John Early and Kate Berlant, with an afterparty with food and drinks upstairs at the Metrograph's Commissary to follow.
Head here for all the GIPHY Film Fest details to submit something that lasts 18 seconds or less, but loops for a lifetime if you really think about it. Make WNW proud.
