We kicked things off with a look at the past, present, and future of illustration, as told by a dozen illustrators with a range of styles and experience. As we focused in on the past, we heard why they pursued illustration in the first place, how they got started in a professional capacity, and with which project they first found their voice. As we focused in on the present, we heard how the day-to-day of an illustrator unfolds, tricks of the trade for optimizing their output, when a piece feels finished, and whether they support their illustration practice with work in other disciplines. And as we looked ahead into the future, the illustrators shared what their dream projects would be, what steps they’re taking to get there, and what they want to see more of from the creative industry in 2019.

We love having candid conversations with our members about the breakthroughs, challenges, and dreams that come with their creative pursuits. But sometimes it also makes sense to pass the mic off to someone who knows the creative better than we probably ever could. Like a studio mate. So that’s what we did with WNW Members Sebaldo Pietrovito and Josh McKenna. The two London-based illustrators were more than game to interview each other in their brightly lit studio. We provided some questions to guide the conversation but also encouraged them to keep things fun and loose. The resulting interviews are equal parts insightful and hilarious.
A Look Ahead
Here are just some of the things we have slated in the next week:
Behind-the-scenes photo shoot and interviews with a London-based illustrator studio
An inspirational and insightful conversation with two members of WNW’s own Membership Board, who vet and advise Illustration talent
An op-ed from an illustrator whose second book landed her on the Today Show, CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, in Wired, Glamour, and hundreds of other media outlets.
A roundtable conversation with 12 female artists who are celebrating the nocturnal in a one-night pop-up gallery art show
