PlayLab Plants Giant Inflatable
Flowers Along Sixth Avenue

WNW Member Archie Lee Coates IV and his studio PlayLab, Inc are on a creative mission to celebrate and preserve national treasures like The East River, the female orgasm, and the footsteps of Joaquin Phoenix. They continue to defy expectations in both where they'll go next and how they'll deliver. "With no particular focus, we explore themes using art, architecture, and graphic design to initiate ideas." The latest idea they're celebrating and preserving is the notion that Manhattan is an island once covered with wild and beautiful flowers. Some of these flowers soldier on to this day, but they've clearly been outsized and outmoded by the march of human industry. Until now.
"Grown Up Flowers" is a multi-site installation hosted by the Avenue of the Americas Association that "imagines flowers inflated many times their normal size, giving visitors a new perspective on these iconic and playful representations of beauty." From Wednesday, May 2, 2018 through July 2018, visitors can stroll along Sixth Avenue and visit six different enormous inflatable flowers "sitting, lounging, floating, standing tall or even bending down to greet passersby." They may be even more majestic in the evening when lit from the inside for nighttime viewing.
PlayLab, Inc. consists of Archie Lee Coates IV, Jeff Franklin, Anya Shcherbakova, Dillon Kogle and WNW Member Phil Gibson.
