Working Not Working joined The Studio at Pinterest at their San Francisco headquarters on November 8 for a "Women In Creative" happy hour series. We heard from some incredibly talented designers and creatives on their careers, the changes they have seen, and some of the challenges they have faced. The conversation also covered how these women are using their careers to support other women, both young and established, who are facing similar challenges.

Read MoreThere's a growing movement for inclusive policies in a wide range of fields. But Art and Design, while typically more progressive, are not where they need to be as industries. And Advertising is lagging even further behind. It's what initially lead WNW Member and AIGA Chicago Diversity Lead LaShun Tines to start The Art of Blackness exhibition in Chicago five years ago. And it's still one of the few, if not the only, national group art shows dedicated to furthering the presence of African Americans in the fields of art, design, and advertising. One of its key goals is highlighting potential heroes for younger creatives. "Familiarity and exposure to our heroes in the art and design space is an unspoken issue affecting African American artists. As a result, the aspirations of our artists can be limited. We try to introduce our audience to African American trail-blazers to serve as inspiration and as an example that the possibilities for African American artists and designers are endless."

For starters, while women make up 46% of the ad industry, only 11% of Creative Directors are women.

Given his work in the music industry, we figured we'd hit him up for a list of albums we should go check out immediately. Below, we present some songs from those albums, in no particular order. There are some Black Keys tunes off of their LP Brothers and EP Chulahoma, two of the many albums whose covers showcase Carney's craft. When we interviewed WNW Member Marina Esmeraldo about cofounding an online magazine that celebrates short fiction and illustration, she mentioned how big of a fan she was of the work of fellow WNW Member Kiki Ljung. So we decided to coordinate a meetup between the two illustrators at a bar in Barcelona. They met up at Casa Bonay, where they not only discussed their creative backgrounds and evolutions but also immortalized the rendezvous by drawing each other in an awesome recreation of the venue's iconic bathroom wallpaper.

The worlds of arts and sports are in constant conversation. Many artists in our community have a foot in both, often producing sports-inspired projects. And a simple glance at the lines, materials, and equipment that define each and every sport displays the sheer force that design holds over the sports world. WNW Member Kasper Nyman's ongoing project Cities of Basketball directs a seemingly straightforward conversation between public basketball courts and design, but there's much more at work underneath the surface. We talk to the Copenhagen-based creative about his passion for pickup basketball, how design informs the sport and setting, and what creative communities like Working Not Working can learn from the inherent community aspect of pickup basketball culture.
